Toney Atkins comments: I disagree with the lead sentence of this story. Then again, maybe I don't. FOX News indeed does really well at misleading the public on political issues, and yet the public eats up the misinformation like a juicy hamburger and greasy fries.

BLOG's PAGE VIEWS TOP 25,000, THANKS TO YOU!
BY TONEY ATKINS, BLOGGER
Thanks to you and others around the U.S., Russia, Germany, China, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world for visiting my blog, "Toney Atkins: The World Around Me."
It's an honor that you visit, and I hope that you will continue to do so, because I'll always try to have stories of hard news, health information, political updates, dramas occurring throughout the world, stormy weather and other severe events, occasional humorous offerings.
It's thrilling to have you as a visitor. I figured recently that I have spent more time on my blogs in the past three or four months than the hours I spent on the job at the newspapers I've worked for. I make no money from these efforts to inform and educate, and any ads that you find will be at links to reliable sources.
Please keep visiting, and share the blog with your friends. I'd love to see the total number of page views pass 100,000 by the end of 2013. That's a huge goal, but it would be a wonderful year-end holiday gift.
Thank you.
SPREAD LOVE AND PEACE!!!

TONEY ATKINS: WHAT I THINK ABOUT THAT
TONEY ATKINS: WHAT I THINK ABOUT THAT
The link above takes you to the first blog that I started more than seven years ago and includes mid-decade posts of my own writings during the 2005-2011 period. While I now focus on links to reliable sources for news, features and entertainment that I would include in a newspaper or magazine if I owned one, I still occasionally add comments, some of which unfortunately have caused me to lose friends. I love controversy, as you will see if you visit the blog, as I attempt, sometimes unsuccessfully, to keep an open mind on the issues impacting all of us. My goal is to keep you up to date and to always give you something to read. -- Toney Atkins, July 25, 2013.

The City of Chickamauga WITH REVAMPED COMMENTS FROM TONEY ATKINS
TONEY ATKINS: WHAT I THINK ABOUT THAT: The City of Chickamauga
The Battle of Chickamauga's 150th anniversary celebration is set, and Chickamauga, GA, will take part in related events. A must for Civil War buffs!
Toney Atkins comments: Anyone who wonders why I've posted so much about Chickamauga, GA, doesn't know that I proudly call it my home town. I grew up there, graduated from Gordon Lee Memorial High School and later enjoyed some of the best years of my life teaching many terrific youngsters in grades five through seven at Chickamauga Elementary School (1967-1971). After teaching another year at North Rossville (GA) Elementary School, I vacationed in Florida, where I essentially was handed my first job in journalism, starting as a police reporter, progressing to the government beat, entertainment writer and editor and then to county and assistant city editor at a mainstream newspaper.
I lived in Chickamauga for 29 years and occasionally still yearn for the good old days of small town life where the living was relatively carefree, moved at a leisure pace and full of Southern hospitality. I'm amazed at how much of the town/s history that I wasn't taught when I lived there, but learned about recently. Maybe my teachers tried to inform me, but being a typical kid, I simply took for granted the atmosphere as it was then and not that every day, I was walking on or driving through a land that was jam-packed with history.
The upcoming observances of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga during the Civil War excite me and I want to share that excitement. If you want to visit a small Southern town steeped in history, I encourage you to see Chickamauga. (Did you know that the Civil War battle was named not for the town, but for Chickamauga Creek? The area was known as Crawfish Springs during the War Between the States. A crystal clear spring flows from an area just east of the Gordon-Lee Mansion, a plantation built before the war which still stands an historic landmark. The water from the springs flows into Chickamauga Creek.)
